“Married ‘Til Monday” by Denise Hunter

The fourth and final book in The Chapel Springs Romance Series.

Can definitely be read as a stand alone.

Ryan McKinley is not over his ex-wife Abby, as much as he’d like to be. Probably, buying her dream house and living there all alone hasn’t exactly helped matters. Flooded with the memories of Abby, and suddenly in possession of her treasured, long lost ring, he longs for an excuse to see her again.

Then one day the phone rings. It’s… Abby’s parents. Inviting him to their 35th anniversary party. With Abby?

Abby McKinley has moved on after the breakdown of her marriage. She has a good job, expecting a promotion within weeks. She has a friend with whom she schedules regular movie and ice cream nights.  And she’s just about due to go home for an unpleasant visit to see her parents.

Then Ryan shows up. He’s found out that she’s been lying to her parents for the past three years. Her parents, believing that Ryan and Abby are still happily married, have asked Ryan to drive Abby out to Maine to see them. And Ryan has made up his mind.

Will the three days of faking marriage be the beginning of reconciliation, like Ryan is hoping?

Will it be the closure Abby seeks?

Or will it reveal issues much deeper than the breakdown of their marriage?

“It’s nice and warm in here,” she said.

“I banked the fire a bit ago. Boo dragged me outside –“

“A ten-pound dog dragged you outside?”

“She has very persuasive eyes.”

What I Loved

  • “Marriage of convenience/fake marriage” and “reconciliation stories” have long been two of my favorite romance novel themes. Imagine my delight at finding them combined? Yeah.
  • I never expected this book to delve so deeply into Abby’s emotional issues, but how well done! Simplified, perhaps. Easy to understand? Yes.

Why I Recommend the Book

  • Yet another book NOT promoting “Love Is All You Need”, because honestly, it’s isn’t true.
  • It is a sweet romance, and the characters are lifelike and lovable (the ones that are supposed to be so).
  • It deals with deeper issues than “Huh, I guess I sorta like you after all”

[…] It won’t be easy, but you can turn things around. It’ll be so much better than letting it fester. And when you’re healthy again, He’ll use you in ways you never dreamed He could. He doesn’t waste a hurt.”
